When is wire lath and scratch coat required for CMU or poured concrete substrates?
If the CMU surface is untreated (no paint or other coatings), neither wire lath nor scratch coat is required. However, if paint or protective coating is present on poured concrete, or if the concrete appears smooth, wire lath and scratch coat are recommended, or the surface should be sand-blasted or etched.
