Why do some natural stones have a fiberglass mesh on the back?
Many natural stones, particularly heavily veined marbles, fragile granites, and some quartzites, have a fiberglass mesh glued to the back with epoxy. This is applied at the factory to provide structural reinforcement and prevent the slab from cracking or breaking during transport and fabrication.
