Granite facades offer exceptional durability, weather resistance, and a prestigious aesthetic for building exteriors. It is highly resistant to scratching, fading, acid rain, and impact, ensuring longevity and minimal maintenance.
Specifications
- Finish: Flamed, Bush-hammered, or Honed finishes are recommended for exterior facades to reduce glare, improve weather resistance, and minimize the appearance of environmental soiling. Polished finishes can be used but may require more frequent cleaning.
- Thickness: 3 cm to 5 cm (slabs) for robust exterior cladding, ensuring structural integrity and resistance to environmental stressors. Thinner panels may be used with specialized anchoring systems.
- ASTM: ASTM C615/C615M (Standard Specification for Granite Dimension Stone). Freeze-thaw resistance (ASTM C666/C666M), water absorption (ASTM C97/C97M), and flexural strength (ASTM C880/C880M) are critical for exterior applications.
- Maintenance: Low (requires periodic cleaning to remove pollutants. Sealing is generally not critical but can be applied for added protection).
- Installed: $80-$350/sq ft (material and installation costs vary significantly based on granite type, panel size, anchoring system, and complexity of the building design).
